Acid Reflux and Teeth

There are a few things in life that are just simply not fun.  They are things that happen to some and not to others, and this is the area of health.  I have discovered that there are some things that are flat out of your control and that your body decides for you.  Now I am not saying that acid reflux is something that cannot be worked on, but it is something that some people have and others don't.  The fact is that it can also do lots of damage to your body and especially your teeth if you are not careful.  So I want to just go over some of the areas and talk about this tough condition to have.

In my life I have had a few really bad experiences with acid reflux and I would imagine that it is probably due to the health that I am in.  The ohter night in fact I was awoken at 3:00 am in the morning.  It was not due to a dog or a scary breaking sound in the house but to a crazy pain.  I awoke to my throat burning.  Instead of a nice waking feeling I simply felt pain in my throat.  That was because my stomach has actually ended up sending acid into my mouth.  My throat was burning and I started to caugh rather harshly.  This was really hard because it awoke my spouse and I ended up having to leave the bedroom for up to an hour.  I went to the sink and started to drink a lot of water, but it was a long time before my throuat stopped burning and I luckily had an anti acid pill in my pantry.  This was the start of me looking into getting this taken care of because I know that it can cause a lot of other health issues.

Stomach acid is simply awful if it is not in your stomach.  It burns and takes out tooth enamal like it was its job.  That is dangerous because it is actually eating away at your body and if your dental health matters to you then this is really not a good thing.  Many times it is simply food related and the amount of food you eat and the spicyness can cause bodies to have acid reflux.  It really can ruin your night and your day due to lack of sleep and that is a whole different amount of issues all in itself.  I highly suggest not allowing this to happen because it can be detramental to your teeth.

If you are allowing acid to eat away at your teeth on a weekly or in some cases daily basis then you can have major issues with your dental health.  The ability to stay away from the dentist for emergencies is a gift and if you are allowing your teeth to be eaten away due to your own diet you may be spending a lot of money for emergency fillings and possible root canals.  So try your hardest to allow your acid to not get into your mouth.  Take acid pills if you eat foods that cause this to happen to you.  It is common sense, but sometimes people need to be told that your teeth will be destroyed if they don't.

Different Types Of Teeth Whitening Products

You may want to have whiter teeth while staring in the mirror. Good thing is that you can achieve a brighter and whiter smile with the help of teeth whitening procedures. Teeth whitening products available now a day are simpler and more effective than ever, thanks to an overall advancement in the field of dentistry. The products and procedures used for teeth whitening these days are virtually hassle-free.

Reasons for extrinsic tooth discoloration

Some oral and dental habits may not seem to have a significant impact on your teeth but can change the color of your teeth in the long-term. A few habits that can result in discolored teeth may include the following.

  • Smoking
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Drinking coffee or tea
  • Drinking sodas
  • Eating dark-colored foods

While it is good to avoid these dental or dietary habits to prevent tooth discoloration, you may want to consider some teeth whitening options to get rid of the existing discoloration. Here are a few options that you can consider for teeth whitening.

Whitening toothpaste and rinses

Toothpaste for whitening usually contains mild abrasives that soften the stains and leave the rest of the job for the toothbrush. Mouthwashes, on the other hand, use hydrogen peroxide, which is a bleaching agent. This ingredient not only whitens your teeth but also freshens up your breath. The inclusion of mild abrasives in the composition makes these products safe for daily use.

You may also use special whitening toothbrushes that have special condensed bristles. These toothbrushes add extra effectiveness to the overall whitening procedure.

Chewing gums and dental strips

If you want to use a bit more specific teeth whitening products at home, you may want to use chewing gums and whitening strips. You can chew a few types of gums after meals. These sugarless gums remove food debris after you finish your meal. The primary purpose of these gums is the stimulation in the production of saliva, washing away food debris and bacteria. The whiteners used in these gums coat the teeth to prevent staining.

Whitening strips use their hydrogen peroxide gel side to initiate the whitening action. All you have to do is to apply the gel side of the strip onto your teeth, and let it remain there for about 30 minutes. You may want to repeat the process to get better results.

Tray-based teeth whiteners

An over-the-counter teeth whitening option is to get tray-based teeth whiteners. These whiteners resemble mouthguards. If over-the-counter whitening trays do not fit over your teeth, you may ask your dentist to prepare you a custom whitening tray. To use this tray, you first have to fill it with a lower concentration of peroxide solution. Wearing it on teeth facilitates the whitening action.

The in-office teeth whitening solution

If you are unable to get results from other teeth whitening options, you may want to visit your dentist for an in-office treatment. Because your dentist is a professional person at work, he or she may use a higher concentration of whitening agents while making sure that your teeth and surrounding tissues are not damaged during the process. You may want to speak to your dentist first if you want to get this treatment.

Kinds of braces

To my surprise and possibly yours, many different kinds of braces can be gotten. Some of these kinds of braces don’t even need to have a procedure to be installed. When I got my braces, I did not know there was more than the metal bracket with a wire through them. If I had the option for a different type of braces that did not need an extensive procedure, I believe I would have gone that route as I do not enjoy having some else’s hands in my mouth. I don’t like the dentist, but I know the importance of going.

The first kind of braces we are going to take a look at is Clarity Aligners. This is a company that provides clear plastic braces that are molded to your teeth. You will set up a custom plan with them, and they will provide you with many of these clean brace trays. It is recommended to wear it for at least twenty-two hours a day. The clear liner is almost invisible, so it can give you that confidence knowing your teeth are getting straighter without metal in your mouth. These clear liners are to be changed roughly every one to two weeks. As you change them out as the weeks pass, the liner will slowly get smaller and smaller to ensure your teeth are getting straightened.

The second kind of braces we are going to look at are invisible braces. These are an odd kind of braces. These braces are much like traditional metal and wire braces. The only difference these braces have compared to those is that they are placed on the back of your teeth, so it does not show when you smile. These braces are nearly invisible hence the name. Additionally, these braces are going to be custom made to fit your mouth with pinpoint accuracy. If you wish to get these braces over the front ones, all you need to do is ask your dentist or orthodontist about the process and if it would be a good option for you. The downside is that these braces are going to be more expensive than traditional braces. Due to the custom aspect of these is what drives the price up.

The final kind of braces we are going to talk about is the traditional metal bracket and wire braces. These are the most common types of braces. These braces have a metal stud placed on each tooth fixed with fast drying glue. Once that is done, a wire is run through each bracket and attached to the stud with a special rubber band. These rubber bands come in many different colors, so you can choose how your mouth looks.

When I had to get my braces, I wish I knew I had the option to get the plastic trays. I wish I had gotten those because it seems to be less work needing to be done which means fewer hands in my mouth. I also think the invisible braces are a very neat creation. Having the option to have the metal brackets made and then fixed to the back of my teeth would have been tough for me, I think, but I am glad that this is an option for people who do not wish to have visible metal in their mouth.

Do you know what is in a filling?

Know your options on getting your cavities filled beforehand.  You never really know what you don't know is something that my granddad used to say.  It was a saying that was brought to mind probably too often.  It means that you need to understand that learning is constant.  Even the smartest of people know when to shut up and learn something because it is beyond them.  Well at least the wisest of them do.  So you need to work on understanding your own health issues as well so you can make the most informed decision even when that is only about your teeth.

It’s never fun for anyone to hear the words “It looks like you’ve got a few cavities in here, so we’ll go ahead and fill those today.” It makes you begin to wonder where your dental routine went wrong or what you’ve been eating lately, and then you start fixating on the process of having your cavity filled.  The good thing that I can tell you is cavities being filled don’t hurt nearly as much as you think they do. Perhaps you have bad memories from when you were a kid, but it’s that fear or anxiety when you were young that’s likely making you think it’s worse than it really is.  But did you know you can choose from multiple types of fillings to go into your teeth once the cavity has been removed? Each has their own benefits, so check them out below to see what fits your needs best.  If you think you may have cavities, don’t hesitate to tell us! Read on to learn more about the different filling materials that you can choose from when getting your cavities taken care of.

Having a composite filling is what most people talk about and actually have.  This type of filling is probably the most common since it’s the color of your teeth (mostly). Since the majority of people prefer their teeth to still look like real teeth, they’ll opt for composite fillings as not to draw attention to where the cavity was filled. Usually, this is made of a multitude of materials, such as ceramic and plastic. All of this is pliable enough for us to use and mold into your teeth until it hardens. Once it does harden, it’s sturdy enough to not come out for a long time.

An Amalgam is a little different kind of filling and is not super common in the dental world.  Times have changed, but it is still not the worst option out there.  You’ve probably heard of this type of filling at some point. These are almost always the filling you’ll think of when you hear of cavity fillings simply because you remember the metallic color you’ve seen in other people’s teeth. While it’s not as common as it once was, it still remains as one of the best options since it’s tried and true. It holds up better and longer than composite, though it’s not as discreet. You’ll often find tin, silver, copper, and even zinc in amalgam fillings.

Who doesn't like the good old classic option of gold. Gold fillings cost a bit more than both of the above options, but it’s probably the best out of any simply because of its durability. It’ll last a lot longer than the others and need less maintenance, so that’s one of the reasons you may want it over the others. It is not just a status symbol but a really good option.

Save Money With Your Dental Routine

We all grew up in the United States with proper dental hygiene information.  All our schools and parents generally told us what we needed, and much of that was not based on the reality of why.  We were told to brush our teeth, but not told of the costs that were involved from not doing it.  That is a huge mistake and our education system likes to live on lies and falisies especially when it comes to history and socialism and totalitarianism.  They are praised now in the United States even though they have killed more people than any other form of government.  From a young age, most Americans are told to brush their teeth when they wake up and before they go to bed.  It is something that is instilled in most children at a young age.  Many fights on a daily basis usually take place in most households because of this simple habit.  But many people do not realize how important brushing their teeth really is until it's too late.  The actual cost of not having a successful toothbrush habit can be far more expensive in later years of life.  When you are children and you have baby teeth, at least if the habits of brushing don’t happen or they eat way too many poor foods those teeth will fall out, and the damage caused won't really matter.  The true damage is not learning and having issues later in life. So be smart and stay educated.

No one tells you the actual financial burden of not having a healthy routine.  The cost of a simple cavity can be up to 2000 dollars to have fixed.  First, you have to see a dentist and get that appointment set up.  Then they will most likely have to do an Xray to see the full damage and then go and most likely make another appointment to fill it.  This is all going on while you are in extreme pain and the cost is simply more than just money at this point.  From there the damage to teeth can only get worse. This is a terrible thing and a bad way to live.

Don't fear the cost of a dental checkout.  The major issue if people do not brush their teeth goes way beyond the simple price tag the dentist has.  The scary part is that it can cost you your life.  Dental hygiene is meant to prevent lots of different diseases and if left unchecked this can be a major way to end up in an early grave.  Yes, that sounds extreme but gum disease is very real and when your gums are injured they leave ways for bacteria to seep into the bloodstream.  From here many issues can occur and most of them are much more serious and involve cardiovascular problems.  That is insane.

Don't let the little costs hurt the big picture.  The expense of those issues far outweighs the simple time it takes to brush your teeth on a daily basis. Using proper technique and high-end dental products can keep your true full-body health on track and save you much financial, emotional, and physical trouble. As soon as I read this information and found out the importance of dental hygiene, I began to take it more seriously.  Be wise and be safe and go see a dentist.
